Why did Ryan Reynolds reference Blake Lively’s scandal in a Deadpool scene, knowing it would humiliate her?

Ryan Reynolds has found himself unexpectedly embroiled in his wife Blake Lively’s ongoing legal feud with Justin Baldoni, his co-star from *It Ends With Us*.

The drama, which has been making waves in the entertainment world, revolves around a series of accusations made by Baldoni’s lawyer,

suggesting that Reynolds mocked Baldoni in a scene from the 2024 movie *Deadpool & Wolverine*.

Baldoni’s legal team has threatened to take action against both Reynolds and Lively, alleging that the scene in question,

in which Reynolds plays a variant of Deadpool named “Nicepool,” ridiculed Baldoni,

and that the couple’s behavior in recent months has been harmful.

In a letter sent to Disney CEO Bob Iger and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, Baldoni’s attorney, Bryan Freedman, has asked the company to preserve any relevant documents and communications related to *Deadpool & Wolverine*. The letter specifically references a scene in which Reynolds’ character, Nicepool, is said to make jokes about intimacy coordinators and women “snapping back” into shape after giving birth—remarks that Baldoni’s lawyer believes could be construed as mocking Baldoni. This follows a similar accusation made by Lively in her own lawsuit against Baldoni, where she claimed that the production of *It Ends With Us* initially ignored union advice regarding intimacy coordinators, and that Baldoni allegedly told her personal trainer to have her lose weight within just two weeks of giving birth. Baldoni has denied these allegations in his own legal action against *The New York Times*, over its coverage of the feud.

Reynolds, for his part, has not publicly responded to the claims made by Baldoni. However, Lively has defended her husband, stating that he has been negatively affected by the smear campaign orchestrated by Baldoni. In her lawsuit, Lively claims that Reynolds has been emotionally, physically, and professionally impacted by the pain inflicted on their family, adding that the allegations against him have taken a toll on his well-being. Lively’s legal team has continued to stand by their case, insisting that the serious claims of sexual harassment and retaliation are supported by “concrete facts.”

The letter from Baldoni’s lawyer to Iger and Feige asks for the preservation of any communications related to *Deadpool & Wolverine*, especially those involving the character of Nicepool, who allegedly mocked Baldoni in the scene. Baldoni’s lawyer also requested documents relating to any past harassment complaints made against Reynolds, though Reynolds has not been publicly accused of any such incidents. While no specific timeline for legal action has been provided, the letter makes it clear that litigation could be forthcoming, with Freedman hinting that Baldoni might pursue legal action against both Reynolds and Lively.

The controversy between Reynolds and Baldoni has its roots in a series of public disputes. In Baldoni’s lawsuit against *The New York Times*, he claimed that Reynolds “aggressively berated” him during a meeting in which Reynolds accused Baldoni of “fat-shaming” Lively. Baldoni explained that he had inquired about Lively’s weight to her personal trainer, concerned about her back issues related to lifting her during a scene. However, Baldoni claims that this innocent inquiry was misinterpreted by Lively, who then informed her husband, resulting in an angry confrontation. Baldoni also alleged that Reynolds demanded his agency drop him after the *Deadpool & Wolverine* premiere.

The feud has also extended to claims that Reynolds made unauthorized changes to the script of *It Ends With Us*. Lively herself revealed that Reynolds had contributed to the script, including writing the film’s rooftop scene. Baldoni, however, claimed that he was unaware of Reynolds’ involvement until Lively’s public statement. This revelation added fuel to the fire, with Baldoni alleging that Reynolds had secretly made changes without consulting him.

Lively’s legal battle with Baldoni, which includes allegations of sexual harassment and retaliation, began in late December, when she filed a lawsuit against Baldoni, his publicist, and his production company, Wayfarer Studios. On the same day, Baldoni filed his own lawsuit against *The New York Times*, accusing it of publishing a defamatory story that accepted Lively’s narrative without question. As the legal battle continues to unfold, both sides have made numerous public statements, with Baldoni’s lawyer repeatedly hinting at further litigation against Reynolds and Lively. The ongoing feud has become a spectacle, with many watching closely to see how it will ultimately resolve.

In the midst of all this, Reynolds has kept a low profile, choosing not to respond directly to Baldoni’s accusations. However, the situation has clearly impacted him, as Lively’s lawsuit indicates the toll the public feud has taken on their family. Whether or not legal action will follow remains to be seen, but it’s clear that this dispute between Hollywood stars is far from over.
