Wendy Williams shocked fans with a bizarre claim that she is being “held captive” by those she trusted most: “I’m still aware of everything around me…” What does this mean?

Wendy Williams, the former talk show host known for her candid personality,

issued a heartfelt plea for freedom in a bombshell interview on *The Breakfast Club* Thursday morning.

The 60-year-old media mogul revealed to listeners that she feels “trapped” in a New York facility,

where she is currently residing with elderly patients under a court-ordered guardianship.

During the interview, which included her niece Alex Finnie, Williams described her living situation as “emotional abuse,”

claiming that she is being kept isolated in the facility without access to her phone, laptop, or the ability to communicate freely.

She compared the facility to a “prison,” expressing her deep dissatisfaction with her circumstances. “I am not cognitively impaired, but I feel like I am in prison,” Williams said, emphasizing her belief that she is being unfairly confined in a way that goes beyond her physical needs.

The former *Wendy Williams Show* host went on to explain that she spends her days watching television, listening to the radio, and gazing out the window in solitude. “I sit here, and my life goes by,” she confessed, reflecting on the monotony of her daily routine. Williams also shared her distress over the loss of her beloved cats, stating that they had been taken from her despite her wishes to have them by her side.

Williams’ legal and medical team has previously stated that she has been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia and aphasia, conditions that affect cognition and speech. In 2022, a court appointed a guardianship to oversee Williams’ personal and financial matters, and her guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, has publicly stated that Williams is “cognitively impaired and permanently incapacitated.” Despite these claims, Williams maintains that she is fully aware of her surroundings and able to make her own decisions.

“I am not cognitively impaired,” she firmly reiterated in the interview, defending her mental faculties against the characterization of being incapacitated. This assertion is part of her ongoing battle to regain control over her life, including her finances and personal decisions, which have been managed by her guardian since the guardianship was put in place.

Throughout the interview, Williams expressed feelings of isolation, stating that she does not enjoy interacting with the other residents of the facility. She mentioned that talking to the elderly patients “is not my cup of tea” and that she keeps her door closed to avoid socializing. Williams also conveyed a desire to move to Miami to be closer to her family and celebrate her father’s 94th birthday, indicating her hopes for a future outside of the current facility.

The interview ended with Williams offering a glimpse of her former, signature charm, signing off with her catchphrase, “How you doin’?” Host Charlamagne Tha God, a long-time friend of Williams, encouraged listeners to share her story on social media, urging them to amplify her voice and help her fight for freedom. “This is the fuse to light the situation and make it explode,” he said, as he joined Williams in calling for change.

Williams’ rep has yet to respond to requests for comment regarding the interview, but her niece Alex Finnie’s presence indicates the family’s support for her plea. Fans have been concerned for Williams’ well-being in recent years, especially after her exit from *The Wendy Williams Show* in 2022 due to her health struggles. The show ended in 2022 after a lengthy period of absence from Williams, with several guest hosts filling in during the final season.

Her son, Kevin Hunter Jr., has also publicly expressed concerns about his mother’s condition. In a social media post in December 2024, Hunter Jr. described how isolation was taking a toll on his mother’s health, stating that her “isolation is killing her faster than anything else.” He went on to say that his mother is sober and that she wants to return home, further underscoring the distressing impact of her current living situation.

While Williams’ legal and medical teams continue to maintain that she requires oversight, the public outcry surrounding her situation continues to grow. As Williams continues to speak out, the ongoing legal battle surrounding her guardianship raises important questions about autonomy, mental health, and the rights of individuals under court-appointed care.

Williams’ plea for freedom signals a significant moment in her life, and many are watching closely to see how her fight for independence unfolds in the coming months.
