Sheinelle Jones shocked fans by suggesting she would cut ties with her mother: “She ruined my career.”

Motherhood is a journey filled with challenges, joy, and countless small moments that often go unnoticed.

In honor of Mother’s Day, TODAY hosts Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb, Jenna Bush Hager, Dylan Dreyer,

and Sheinelle Jones took a moment to recognize the hard work and dedication of mothers everywhere.

Raising a glass to celebrate their experiences as working parents, the co-hosts shared heartfelt reflections on motherhood,

the lessons they’ve learned, and the appreciation they’ve gained over the years.

The touching conversation aired during TODAY’s Friday broadcast, with highlights that resonated deeply with viewers.

But beyond what was shown on television, TODAY.com also captured additional exclusive moments from the discussion, offering a more personal glimpse into the hosts’ lives as mothers.

Sheinelle Jones’ Realization About Her Own Mother’s Efforts

During the conversation, TODAY co-host Sheinelle Jones, who is a mother to 14-year-old Kayin and 11-year-old twins Clara and Uche, reflected on a recent moment of gratitude she had for her own mother. She recalled a memory from childhood that made her realize just how much effort goes into being a parent.

“True story, I called my mom the other day and I said, ‘Thanks, Mom.’ And here’s why,” Jones shared.

She went on to describe how, as a child, she and her siblings would play in piles of laundry, completely unaware of the work that went into washing and folding those clothes.

“When we were younger, there were three of us. So much laundry. And it was always downstairs in different piles. And we would play on them. We’d run and jump in them with no thought of, ‘Maybe I should put them in the wash and not roll around in them.’ And I’d say, ‘Mom, is my red shirt up yet?’”

It wasn’t until she became a mother herself that Jones truly understood the invisible labor that parents take on every day. “Now I realize as an adult, no, the shirt didn’t just magically come up the stairs into my drawers. She did that. You know?”

Teaching Responsibility and Life Skills

Jones, like many parents, is now working to instill a sense of responsibility in her own children. She wants them to understand the value of hard work and independence, particularly when it comes to managing household tasks.

One of the lessons she has focused on is teaching her kids how to do their own laundry. But, as with many parenting moments, things don’t always go as planned. She recounted a humorous mishap involving her 11-year-old daughter, Clara, who made a rookie mistake when attempting to do her own wash.

Several rolls of toilet tissue accidentally fell into the washing machine, but Clara didn’t check before loading her clothes. As a result, she ended up with soggy, tissue-covered garments. Instead of stepping in immediately to fix the problem, Jones encouraged her daughter to figure out a solution on her own. With the help of a TikTok hack, Clara managed to clean up the mess.

A Message of Appreciation for All Moms

Jones used the moment to acknowledge the countless mothers who put in endless effort each day, often without recognition.

“And so I think about all these moms who, maybe somebody’s not saying, ‘Thank you,’ or, ‘Good job,’ or, ‘We see you. We appreciate you,’” she said. “But to whoever you are this morning, I’m sure you are doing a great job, and thank you for what you’re doing.”

The heartfelt discussion among the TODAY hosts served as a reminder of the unseen work that mothers do, both at home and in their professional lives. Balancing work and family is no small feat, and taking the time to appreciate these efforts—whether through a simple “thank you” or a Mother’s Day toast—can mean the world.

As the co-hosts lifted their glasses in celebration, their conversation highlighted an important truth: motherhood is filled with challenges, but it’s also full of love, growth, and moments of profound appreciation.
