Savannah Guthrie is extremely thankful to Jenna Bush Hager for continuing their friendship after the tragic experience they went through together.

Savannah Guthrie and Jenna Bush Hager have built more than just a strong working relationship—

they’ve formed a deep and lasting friendship that extends far beyond the walls of the Today show.

Their bond, which has grown over the years, feels more like family, with their children forming close relationships of their own.

A Friendship Rooted in Family

During a recent celebration for the four-year anniversary of Bush Hager’s Read with Jenna book club,

Guthrie opened up about how much their friendship means to her. She reflected on their time as neighbors,

a period when their children grew up together and formed connections that remain strong today.

“Our kids are still buddies,” Guthrie shared. “Now that she’s out of the city, we make weekend plans and try to see each other.” The transition has required some effort, but the two make it a priority to stay close.

Guthrie, 51, and Bush Hager, 41, both have young children who spent years growing up side by side. Guthrie is a mother to daughter Vale, 8, and son Charles, 6, whom she shares with her husband, Michael Feldman. Meanwhile, Bush Hager and her husband, Henry Hager, have three children—daughters Mila, 9, and Poppy, 7, and son Hal, 3.

More Than Just Friends—They’re Family

The bond between their families goes beyond just childhood friendships. Guthrie shared a special connection with Bush Hager’s youngest son, revealing that she is Hal’s godmother. “Hal, her youngest, is my godson, so my kids like to call the other kids their godbrothers and sisters,” she said. “And it feels like family.”

Though Bush Hager’s move out of Manhattan changed their daily interactions, Guthrie admitted it was an adjustment. “It broke our hearts a little to not be neighbors anymore,” she reflected. “We weren’t in and out of each other’s houses all day long anymore, or grabbing them at the bus stop.”

But despite the distance, their friendship remains unshaken. “That was a beautiful moment in time, but the core of our friendship and our kids’ friendship is so strong,” Guthrie explained. “Mila and Vale are very, very close. Charley and Poppy are really good friends.”

Prioritizing Time Together

Even though they no longer live next door to each other, Guthrie and Bush Hager make sure to find ways to stay connected. “When we get together, it’s like no time has passed at all,” Guthrie said. “We’re not far—we just have to make a plan and say, ‘All right, we’re driving out to see you guys.’”

She recalled a recent trip right before Christmas when their families gathered for a special weekend together. “Everybody spent the night,” she said. “We just all stayed at her house for the weekend. It was fun.” Moments like these help keep their bond strong, reinforcing the idea that their friendship is built on more than convenience—it’s a true connection.

A Friendship That Stands the Test of Time

Guthrie has spoken about her close friendship with Bush Hager before, expressing how much their journey together has meant to her. She reminisced about a unique full-circle moment in their relationship, recalling how she once covered Bush Hager’s wedding as a reporter before they became close friends.

“We’re almost exactly 10 years apart, and 10 years ago, when she got married to Henry, I was a fourth-string White House reporter assigned to cover her wedding,” Guthrie shared. “It’s hilarious because there are live shots of me talking about Jenna getting married.”

She marveled at how life’s twists and turns led them to where they are today. “Isn’t it beautiful and delightful, the turns that life takes?” she said. “Here I was, just a reporter, trying to find out anything about the wedding. Ten years later, she’s one of my closest friends.”

A Bond That’s Here to Stay

The relationship between Guthrie and Bush Hager is more than just a workplace friendship—it’s a connection that has grown and deepened over time, rooted in mutual support, shared experiences, and a love for each other’s families. Even as life takes them in different directions, they remain committed to staying close.

For these two Today show co-hosts, friendship isn’t just about sharing a workspace—it’s about sharing a life.
