Robin Roberts from GMA is now facing public criticism after subtly indicating that she is exhausted from being married to Amber Laign. What’s going on?

Robin Roberts and Amber Laign have built a loving and committed relationship while embracing an unconventional living arrangement—a growing trend among modern couples.

Despite being together for nearly 20 years, the Good Morning America co-anchor and her longtime partner have maintained separate residences throughout their relationship.

A Love Story Spanning Two Decades

Robin, 64, and Amber, 50, first met in 2005 after being set up on a blind date.

Their connection blossomed over the years, and in September 2023, they officially tied the knot in an intimate ceremony surrounded by close friends and family.

Despite their deep commitment to one another, the couple has never fully shared a home, opting instead for a unique setup that suits their lifestyle.

Robin owns a $2.5 million penthouse in Manhattan, where she primarily resides due to her demanding schedule at Good Morning America. Amber, on the other hand, lives just ten minutes away in her own Upper West Side apartment. While they spend most nights together, they also spend three nights apart each week. The couple also owns a home in Farmington, Connecticut, which Robin purchased in 1994, and a retreat in Key West, Florida, which they lovingly call their “happy place.”

Living Separately, Loving Strongly

On a recent episode of Good Morning America, the show featured a special segment on couples who live apart, inspired by actress Sheryl Lee Ralph’s comments about maintaining a separate residence from her husband, Vincent Hughes. Following the report, Robin openly discussed her and Amber’s similar arrangement, acknowledging that while it might not work for everyone, it has been a key to their long-lasting relationship.

“It’s not for everyone,” Robin admitted. “Amber and I [live separately], not by choice, but because of the work schedule. But there’s a lot of trust there. And there are some people from my past I would not have done this with.” She then sweetly added, “But she’s the one,” prompting a lighthearted reaction from her co-hosts.

This isn’t the first time Robin has spoken about their living situation. In a 2014 interview with Ellen DeGeneres, she explained that their choice to live separately was initially due to the challenges of her early morning wake-up calls. “Amber and I have been a loving couple for almost ten years now, but we choose not to live together. Maybe that’s why we’ve lasted almost a decade!” she joked.

Navigating Life Together, Apart

Though Robin and Amber have never fully merged their living spaces, they have shared periods of cohabitation. During the COVID-19 lockdowns in 2020, the couple spent an extended time together in their Connecticut home, where Robin broadcasted GMA from her basement. Reflecting on that time, she described it as “awesome” but admitted it was difficult when she had to return to the studio while Amber remained in Connecticut.

The pair eventually decided it was time to take the next step in their relationship, leading to their wedding in 2023. Their ceremony took place at their Farmington home, with many of Robin’s GMA colleagues, including George Stephanopoulos, Michael Strahan, and David Muir, in attendance.

While they maintain their separate residences during the week, Robin and Amber make the most of their time together. They frequently retreat to their Connecticut home on weekends and spend quality time at their Key West property, often accompanied by their beloved dog, Lil Man Lukas.

The Rise of the “Living Apart Together” Trend

Robin and Amber’s lifestyle choice aligns with a growing trend among modern couples who opt to maintain separate homes while remaining deeply connected. Relationship experts suggest that living apart can strengthen a partnership by allowing both individuals to maintain their independence while still nurturing their bond.

For Robin and Amber, this arrangement has been a key component of their nearly two-decade-long relationship. Their story serves as an example that love doesn’t have to fit into a traditional mold—sometimes, creating your own path leads to the strongest foundation.
