Kelly Ripa started her week on Live with Kelly and Mark with a story many can relate to—a weekend spent in bed feeling under the weather.

The beloved television host opened up about her difficult few days at home during Monday morning’s episode,
revealing that she had been dealing with a particularly bad cold.
Kelly Ripa’s Rough Weekend

As she settled into her seat on Live, Kelly wasted no time addressing the audience and viewers at home about her absence over the weekend.

“I was in bed this weekend,” she admitted.

“With the worst cold. I was starting to get it at the end of last week, and I understand that I probably sound worse now, but I’m much better. So I want you all to know!”
Her husband and co-host, Mark Consuelos, chimed in with his own take on the situation. Kelly humorously recounted how Mark reacted to her being sick, joking that he kept his distance to avoid catching it himself. “Saturday was the day that was really bad,” she shared. “Mark was like, ‘This is something!’ I knew because he stayed away from me all day. One bad cough around Consuelos, and he retreats. I don’t know where he was!”
Mark playfully added, “It sounded like a nice, cute baby seal,” referring to Kelly’s coughing fits. Despite still feeling a little under the weather, Kelly assured everyone, “I’m fine now.”
A Busy Few Weeks for Kelly
Her weekend of rest was well-deserved, considering her whirlwind schedule over the past few weeks. Kelly has been on the go, traveling to Los Angeles to cover the Oscars for Live, visiting Santa Barbara, and making a special trip to Michigan to see her youngest son, Joaquin.

Her Michigan visit was particularly meaningful as it coincided with two big events: Joaquin’s role in a production of A Few Good Men and his 22nd birthday. The proud mom and the rest of the family gathered in Ann Arbor to celebrate his milestone, marking another special memory for the Ripa-Consuelos clan.
Joaquin’s Journey and Graduation Plans
Joaquin, who will be graduating from college later in 2025, has had a transformative experience since moving to Michigan. He was the first of Kelly and Mark’s three children to attend college outside of New York City, a change that made them official empty nesters in 2021.
Reflecting on that emotional transition, Kelly previously shared how difficult it was to say goodbye when Joaquin first left for college. “We became empty nesters. We took our youngest son to college, we dropped him off. It was hard. It was really hard,” she recalled on Live. “We gave him a hug—it was actually brutally painful. And I said, ‘I did not realize that 18 years would go so fast.’”

Despite the initial difficulty, Kelly and Mark have embraced their son’s journey and have become involved in the Ann Arbor community. Kelly has even participated in fundraisers such as the Michigan Medicine Women’s Health Luncheon in 2023.
A Family of Creatives
Kelly and Mark’s three children have all pursued careers in the creative field, following in their parents’ footsteps.
Michael, 27, is an actor, appearing in various film and television projects.

Lola, 23, is a singer who has released several singles and continues to explore her musical talents.
Joaquin, 22, while passionate about wrestling, has also expressed interest in pursuing acting after graduation.
The couple has always emphasized the importance of hard work, regardless of their children’s career choices. In a previous interview, Kelly spoke about how she and Mark raised their kids to be self-sufficient. “We want to raise productive people who are thoughtful and selfless,” she explained. “I wanted to raise good, caring, generous, thoughtful people who are professional, who are polite, who don’t expect the world handed to them.”

Looking Ahead
Though her weekend didn’t go as planned, Kelly is already back in action, ready to tackle her busy schedule. With Joaquin’s upcoming graduation and her continued hosting duties, there’s plenty to look forward to for the talk show veteran.
Her recent illness may have slowed her down for a couple of days, but if one thing is certain, it’s that Kelly Ripa is always on the move—whether she’s traveling for work, supporting her children, or making audiences laugh every morning on Live.
