Jenna Bush Hager vents her anger, revealing Barbara’s husband nearly put her first child’s life at risk.

Jenna Bush Hager’s Husband Thought He Was Being Pranked When Her Water Broke

Jenna Bush Hager’s journey to motherhood began with an unforgettable and slightly hilarious moment that perfectly captures her lively personality.

The Today with Jenna & Friends host recently shared the amusing story of how her husband,

Henry Hager, refused to believe she was in labor, thinking it was just another prank played by his wife and her twin sister, Barbara Pierce Bush.

A Surprise Start to Labor

During a February episode of Today with Jenna & Friends,

Bush Hager sat down with guest co-host Ego Nwodim to recall the unexpected series of events that led to the birth of her oldest child, Mila. She explained that the day had started off normally—so much so that she even attended a SoulCycle class. However, things took a surprising turn when she went into labor earlier than expected.

“On the day my first child was born—she was very early—and I went to a SoulCycle class,” Bush Hager recounted.

Nwodim, clearly surprised, asked for clarification: “And you were nine months pregnant?”

“I was… 8.5,” Bush Hager clarified, explaining that her daughter arrived at just 35-and-a-half weeks.

Henry Hager’s Doubts

Despite the early arrival, Bush Hager had a baby shower later that day, where things took an even more comical turn. When her water broke, her husband, Henry Hager, refused to believe that it was really happening. The skepticism wasn’t entirely unfounded—Bush Hager and her twin sister, Barbara, had played pranks on him in the past, leading him to assume this was just another one of their jokes.

“Those sisters have played pranks on me, I’m not falling for it,” Bush Hager recalled Henry saying after Barbara informed him over the phone that Jenna’s water had broken.

Even though the news was coming straight from his wife and sister-in-law, Henry remained unconvinced.

The Moment of Realization

It wasn’t until Henry received a phone call from one of Bush Hager’s Today producers, Kerri, along with her producer’s husband, that he finally accepted the reality of the situation. The fact that the message was coming from someone outside of his family seemed to add credibility to the situation.

“He trusts Kerri more than you!” Nwodim exclaimed upon hearing the story.

Bush Hager laughed in response, admitting, “And I basically trust Kerri more than I trust myself.”

Once Henry finally accepted that his wife was truly in labor, he rushed to be by her side, making it just in time to welcome their firstborn into the world.

A Strong and Supportive Marriage

Jenna Bush Hager and Henry Hager’s love story began years before this humorous moment, and their relationship has remained strong ever since. The couple tied the knot in 2008, and in addition to Mila, they are proud parents to two more children, Poppy and Hal.

During a late January episode of Today with Jenna & Friends, Bush Hager discussed what she believes is the key to a successful marriage. Speaking with her guest co-host, country singer and The Voice coach Kelsea Ballerini, she emphasized the importance of choosing the right partner.

“Part of it is choosing the right person because they make you feel—they’re supportive, but they also make you feel like you’re doing what you’re supposed to be doing because then you can do it well,” she explained.

Bush Hager’s words highlight the foundation of her own relationship with Henry, where mutual support and understanding play a crucial role. Despite the occasional miscommunication—like Henry’s initial disbelief about her going into labor—it’s clear that their bond is built on love and trust.

A Relationship Filled with Laughter and Love

Looking back, the story of Mila’s birth is a perfect reflection of the humor and warmth that define Bush Hager’s marriage. Even in the midst of a life-changing event, laughter found its way into the moment, making it all the more memorable.

From being soulmates to playful pranksters, Jenna and Henry have built a relationship that balances fun with deep-rooted support. And while Henry may have once doubted his wife’s labor, there’s no doubt that he has been a devoted husband and father ever since.

Their story serves as a heartwarming reminder that even the most unexpected moments can turn into cherished memories—especially when shared with the right person.
