Craig Melvin from TODAY surprised many by announcing a “fresh venture” aimed at assisting individuals battling cancer!

Craig Melvin, a beloved television personality and co-host of Today, is using his platform to raise awareness and support for an important cause close to his heart.

The news anchor recently shared an exciting announcement with viewers, unveiling a new project dedicated to raising funds for colorectal cancer research.

During a segment on Today, Craig sat alongside fellow co-hosts Dylan Dreyer

and Al Roker to introduce an exclusive collection of socks and sweatshirts designed to benefit the fight against colorectal cancer.

This initiative is particularly meaningful for Craig, as he lost his older brother, Lawrence Meadows, to the disease in 2020.

Proudly showcasing the new “sock and 1/4 zip set” both on-air and on social media, Craig encouraged supporters to take part in the initiative.

In an Instagram post, he wrote, “Big announcement! Last year, I was inspired to design and create a TODAY tie and sock set in honor of my brother, Lawrence, who passed away from colorectal cancer back in 2020. This year, I went the sportier route.”

Emphasizing the importance of early detection and preventive screenings, Craig continued, “With your help, we can raise greater awareness about the importance of preventive screening. You can head to the link in my story to check out the exclusive collection. They are also available in person at The Shop at NBC Studios.”

As part of the campaign, NBCUniversal has pledged to make a donation to the Colorectal Cancer Alliance in recognition of National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. Craig hopes that by using his platform to spread awareness, more people will take preventative measures to detect the disease early.

Lawrence Meadows was diagnosed with stage 4 colorectal cancer at just 39 years old after experiencing symptoms such as abdominal pain and weight loss. Despite undergoing treatment, he sadly passed away at the age of 43. Since then, Craig has been committed to honoring his brother’s memory by advocating for better education and resources surrounding colorectal cancer.

In a heartfelt conversation, Craig spoke about the importance of this cause. “Before my brother died, I became very involved in the Colorectal Cancer Alliance. It was very important to my wife, Lindsay, and me to not only honor my brother’s memory but also do something that could save lives and prevent other families from experiencing what we did.”

Craig has been vocal about the fact that colorectal cancer is highly preventable when caught early. He pointed out that while it is one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths, it does not always receive the same level of attention and funding as other forms of cancer.

“We are trying to change that,” he emphasized. “We want to destigmatize the conversation around this disease. Nobody wants to talk about their colon, their rectum, or blood in their stool, but slowly, this mindset is shifting.”

As part of his advocacy, Craig consistently encourages people to get screened for colorectal cancer, especially those over the age of 45 or individuals with a family history of the disease. Regular colonoscopies and awareness about early warning signs can significantly reduce the risk of developing advanced-stage cancer.

Craig’s efforts to raise awareness, along with his new Today collection, aim to make a difference in the fight against colorectal cancer. By combining his influence with a charitable initiative, he hopes to inspire others to take action in their own health journeys while supporting research and prevention programs.

With the unwavering support of his family, colleagues, and fans, Craig remains dedicated to continuing his advocacy work in honor of his late brother. Through initiatives like these, he is ensuring that Lawrence’s legacy lives on while bringing attention to a critical health issue that affects countless individuals and families every year.
