A judge has rejected a significant portion of Blake Lively’s legal request for Justin Baldoni’s phone records, calling it “overly intrusive” in the ongoing legal dispute between the two stars.

The courtroom battle stems from Lively’s accusations that Baldoni led a campaign to tarnish her reputation following their work together on “It Ends With Us.”
Lively had sought access to Baldoni’s phone records, along with those of others involved in the alleged smear effort.
However, in a ruling issued on Friday, Judge Lewis Liman put a stop to her demands, partially denying the request while allowing her to pursue records from other parties.

Baldoni’s legal team, led by attorney Bryan Freedman, celebrated the ruling, calling it a victory against what they deemed an attempt to invade their clients’ privacy.

“The Court put a stop to Ms. Lively’s egregious attempt to invade our clients’ privacy,” Freedman stated.

“No matter how her team tries to frame this decision, the Court recognized their efforts for what they are—a desperate fishing expedition to support claims that have already been debunked.”
The legal battle between the two actors began when Lively accused Baldoni of sexual harassment on the set of “It Ends With Us.” She later claimed he retaliated against her by orchestrating a campaign to damage her reputation. Baldoni has denied all allegations, countering with his own lawsuit in which he asserts that Lively fabricated the accusations to restore her public image after taking control of the film’s production.
Despite the judge denying Lively’s request for Baldoni’s phone records, he did leave the door open for her legal team to seek records from other individuals they believe played a role in the alleged smear campaign. Judge Liman ruled that while Baldoni has a right to privacy regarding his phone communications, Lively’s team may request relevant records from non-party individuals who might have been involved.
“This request implicates legitimate privacy interests,” Liman noted. “Even though Lively has narrowed her request to exclude the content of calls or messages, the phone records themselves would still contain sensitive information, such as communications with doctors, psychologists, or personal acquaintances.”

However, the ruling does not completely prevent Lively from gathering evidence. Judge Liman specified that her legal team is permitted to request discovery from other individuals believed to be involved in the situation. They may also use discovery tools to identify relevant phone numbers and communication patterns that could support their claims.
Following the ruling, Lively’s representatives criticized Baldoni’s legal team, questioning why they had fought so hard to block access to the phone records. “What is Bryan Freedman hiding?” a spokesperson for Lively asked. “After promising to release all the ‘receipts,’ Freedman rushed to court to keep secret the phone records of Baldoni and others involved in this retaliatory campaign.”
The spokesperson went on to explain that while their initial request to obtain the records directly from phone carriers was denied, the judge’s decision still allows them to pursue the same information through more specific subpoenas. “Today, we are submitting those requests directly to the individuals involved, and we look forward to seeing the records.”
Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, had initially filed their request for phone records on February 13, seeking evidence to support their claims that Baldoni had led a deliberate effort to damage her reputation. Her legal team asserted that discovery in the case would uncover the full extent of the tactics allegedly used against her.

Baldoni, however, has consistently denied the accusations, insisting that Lively’s claims are baseless. His legal team argues that there is no evidence of a coordinated smear campaign and that the accusations of harassment and retaliation are part of an effort by Lively to shift blame for the controversy surrounding the film’s troubled release.
The legal battle is set to continue, with Lively adding new allegations in an amended complaint. She has asserted that two additional female cast members are willing to testify in support of her claims when the case goes to trial in 2026. Baldoni’s legal team, however, has dismissed these new allegations as “unsubstantiated hearsay.”
With both sides standing firm, the courtroom fight between Lively and Baldoni shows no signs of slowing down. As legal proceedings progress, both actors will have the opportunity to present their cases, with potential revelations still to come as more evidence is gathered.
