Ben Thompson from BBC Breakfast shocked audiences by accusing Nina Warhurst of being disloyal: “I know what’s really behind her absence…”

BBC Breakfast viewers were treated to a slight shake-up this past Sunday, as Ben Thompson hosted the morning news programme solo.

Nina Warhurst, his usual co-presenter on Sundays, was notably absent, and while she hasn’t officially addressed the reason behind her absence,

Nina confirmed she was taking some well-deserved time off to spend with her family during the half-term break.

The change in line-up didn’t go unnoticed by fans of the programme, especially since Ben and Nina typically present the show together every Sunday.

As Ben sat alone on the iconic red sofa, he introduced various reports and news segments, including one on ongoing talks regarding the situation in Ukraine.

While Ben smoothly took the reins, viewers were left wondering about Nina’s whereabouts, sparking curiosity on social media.

Nina shared her break plans through a post on her Instagram Story the day before, giving fans a glimpse into her time off. On Saturday, February 15, she posted a photo of her son enjoying the “Horrible Histories” tour at the Palace Theatre in Manchester. Nina captioned the image, “Half term is GO with Terrible Tudors,” referencing the fun and educational show. She described the performance as “gory, funny, and pacey,” while also noting that it was under two hours in length, making it a great choice for a family outing during the school break.

While this post hinted at her break, it wasn’t until the following day, when Ben hosted solo, that viewers were certain Nina was taking some time off. Though Nina did not provide further details about her time off, it’s clear that she is enjoying a much-needed break from the hectic schedule of BBC Breakfast.

Nina Warhurst’s absence comes after a busy period of reporting for BBC Breakfast. The journalist has long been a staple of the programme, joining in 2018 as a business correspondent and later succeeding Steph McGovern as the business presenter in 2020. Her versatility has seen her step in as a presenter for various BBC shows, including weekdays when other hosts are unavailable. Just earlier this week, Nina was on location at London’s Royal Free Hospital, reporting on the pressures faced by NHS workers. She has a strong history of reporting on vital topics and stepping up when needed.

BBC Breakfast’s regular presenting lineup includes Jon Kay and Sally Nugent, who typically present from Monday to Wednesday, while Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt take over from Thursday to Saturday. However, this past week, viewers were treated to a different line-up, as Ben Thompson stepped in for Charlie Stayt on all four weekdays. The absence of Charlie Stayt led to some confusion, with no official word on why he was replaced by Ben. As of now, Charlie has yet to comment on his unexpected absence from the show, leaving viewers speculating about the reasons behind the switch.

The alterations to the schedule sparked plenty of attention, with some wondering whether these changes were due to personal reasons or if the BBC had made temporary adjustments to the programme’s hosting line-up. However, with no official statement from Charlie or the BBC, fans are left to fill in the blanks.

Despite these changes, BBC Breakfast continues to be a popular morning programme, bringing the latest news, interviews, and updates to viewers each day. Ben Thompson has previously been praised for his presenting style, and his solo stint on Sunday showed that he could easily handle the show on his own, making the transition seamless for those tuning in.

It’s clear that Nina Warhurst’s absence on Sunday was well-planned as part of her half-term break, allowing her to enjoy quality time with her family. Meanwhile, Ben Thompson proved himself more than capable of managing the broadcast on his own. As the schedule continues to shift and evolve, fans are sure to keep an eye out for further updates regarding the hosts’ appearances and any upcoming changes to the BBC Breakfast team.
