Angelina Jolie shared that she despises her acting career, revealing in her latest interview: “If not for my mother, I would have quit long ago.”

Angelina Jolie, one of Hollywood’s most iconic actresses,

recently opened up about her journey into acting and how it was deeply intertwined with fulfilling her late mother’s dream.

Jolie, known for her critically acclaimed performances and humanitarian efforts, revealed that she never consciously chose to pursue a career in acting.

Instead, it was a path she followed almost instinctively, driven by her desire to honor her mother, Marcheline Bertrand,

who had long harbored her own aspirations in the entertainment industry.

In a candid reflection, Jolie shared how her mother’s passion for acting influenced her childhood.

Marcheline Bertrand was an actress herself, though her career took a backseat as she devoted her life to raising Jolie and her brother, James Haven. “My mother had a deep love for the arts,” Jolie said. “She dreamed of being an actress and bringing stories to life on screen. But when she became a mother, she put those dreams aside to focus on us. I think, in a way, I picked up where she left off.”

Jolie described her entry into acting as something she felt compelled to do rather than a deliberate choice. “I don’t remember making the choice to become an actress,” she admitted. “It was more like something I fell into because it was such a part of my mother’s identity and her dreams.” From an early age, Jolie was immersed in the world of cinema, often watching movies with her mother and hearing stories about the craft. This exposure planted the seeds of her eventual career, even if she wasn’t fully aware of it at the time.

Marcheline’s influence on Jolie went beyond just her introduction to acting. Jolie credits her mother with instilling in her a deep sense of empathy and a passion for storytelling. “My mother had this incredible ability to connect with people and see the beauty in every story,” Jolie shared. “She taught me to appreciate the complexity of human emotions and the importance of expressing them authentically. That’s something I carry with me in every role I take on.”

While Jolie initially pursued acting as a way to honor her mother, it quickly became a means of self-expression and a way to process her own emotions. Early in her career, she gravitated toward roles that were intense and emotionally charged, a reflection of her own struggles and the deep bond she shared with her mother. “Acting became a form of therapy for me,” she explained. “It allowed me to explore parts of myself that I didn’t fully understand and to connect with my mother’s spirit in a meaningful way.”

Jolie’s relationship with her mother was one of profound love and admiration. Marcheline was not only a role model but also a source of unwavering support for Jolie throughout her life. When Marcheline passed away in 2007 after a long battle with ovarian cancer, it was a devastating loss for Jolie. “My mother was my everything,” she said. “Losing her was one of the hardest things I’ve ever been through, but it also made me more determined to carry her legacy forward.”

In the years since her mother’s passing, Jolie has often spoken about the ways Marcheline continues to inspire her. Whether it’s through her acting or her work as a humanitarian, Jolie sees everything she does as a tribute to her mother’s memory. “I feel her presence in everything I do,” Jolie said. “She may not be here physically, but her spirit is always with me, guiding me and reminding me of the values she instilled in me.”

Jolie also acknowledged that her mother’s sacrifices were a driving force behind her own commitment to her children. As a mother of six, Jolie strives to create a nurturing environment that reflects the love and dedication she experienced from Marcheline. “My mother taught me what it means to be selfless and to always put family first,” Jolie said. “I hope I can be even half the mother she was.”

Looking back on her journey, Jolie feels a sense of gratitude for the path she has taken. While acting may not have been her initial dream, it became a way for her to connect with her mother’s aspirations and to carve out her own identity. “I think my mother would be proud,” Jolie said. “She wanted to be an actress, and in a way, she achieved that through me. Everything I’ve accomplished is because of her love and her belief in me.”

Jolie’s story is a testament to the enduring power of a mother’s influence and the ways in which love and sacrifice can shape a person’s life. As she continues to build her legacy, Jolie remains deeply connected to the woman who inspired it all—a mother whose dreams became her daughter’s reality.
