During the February 3 episode of *The View*, co-host Ana Navarro and comedian Amy Schumer revealed an unexpected family bond that had many viewers stunned. 

The two women, who are well-known for their sharp wit and candid conversations, learned that they share a unique ancestry connection—one that links them as cousins.

The revelation came after a segment on *Finding Your Roots*, the PBS ancestry series hosted by Henry Louis Gates Jr. Navarro explained 

that during an earlier appearance on the show, Gates had traced her ancestry and uncovered a surprising connection between her family and Schumer’s. 

“The host of *Finding Your Roots* on PBS, was here last week,” Navarro began, referring to Gates Jr. 

“He traced your ancestry some seasons ago. It turns out, you and I have something in common.”

The discovery of their shared lineage was met with immediate excitement from Schumer, who joyfully exclaimed, “Cousin! Cousin!” The two stars then shared a hug on set, clearly amused and delighted by the news. 

Navarro, still processing the surprising connection, humorously asked, “Did you know there were wandering Schumers in Nicaragua? How did this happen?” To which Schumer responded, “I had no idea but I’m so honored. We have to start hanging out more.”

The conversation then took a playful turn, with Navarro joking that their hangouts could potentially “ruin your reputation.” Schumer, never one to shy away from a laugh, responded with her own lighthearted comment: “We’ll do it together.” The two continued to bond over their newfound family connection, sharing a moment of humor and joy. 

Navarro, known for her candid and often political commentary on *The View*, further quipped, “But you know what? Maybe because maybe ICE won’t take me if I’m hanging out with a blonde like you.” This humorous comment sparked laughter from both Schumer and the audience, showcasing their easygoing dynamic.

The unexpected connection between Navarro and Schumer first came to light during an October 2017 episode of *Finding Your Roots*. When Navarro appeared on the show, she was shocked to discover that she and Schumer—along with Schumer’s relative, Senator Chuck Schumer—are all connected by an unbroken DNA thread. Navarro had expressed her surprise at the time, saying, “I was surprised to know I have an unbroken DNA thread with Amy Schumer, which also means [Senator] Chuck Schumer.” She jokingly added, “I don’t know this is my reputation and his reputation. Oh, Lord!” 

In addition to the surprising discovery about her connection to the Schumer family, Navarro also learned more about her ancestry and the history of her family in Nicaragua. One of the most poignant moments from her *Finding Your Roots* appearance was learning that one of her ancestors had been a slave. The revelation deeply affected Navarro, and she later spoke about the significance of the discovery.

“I’ve always been very touched by stories about slavery, about civil rights, but now they’re not just abstract history. Now it’s also my own history,” Navarro shared in a follow-up interview. “And so to know that I’ve got that inside of me was very meaningful.”

Reflecting on the broader implications of her newfound knowledge, Navarro shared a powerful message about identity and how we define ourselves. “How we look on the outside may not be the entire story,” she said. “Too often today, we get hung up on labels. You know, whether you’re White, whether you’re Brown, whether you’re Black, whether you’re this, whether you’re that, whether you’re a Democrat or a Republican, a conservative, a progressive — don’t get full hung up on these external labels because a lot of times, what’s going on internally is much different.”

For both Navarro and Schumer, their shared ancestry has become a reminder of how interconnected we all are, often in ways we least expect. The surprise family reunion on *The View* served as a lighthearted but meaningful moment for both women, showcasing their humor, openness, and the powerful bond that can emerge from understanding one’s roots.

As the two cousins joked about their future hangouts, it was clear that this unexpected family connection had created a new chapter in their relationship—one that will undoubtedly lead to more fun moments both on and off the screen.
