Al Roker surprises everyone by stating he has insider knowledge about the individual who will be departing New York City and TODAY soon: “Honestly, I haven’t cried at all during this whole ordeal.”

Al Roker has long been known as the steady voice of reason on Today, offering not only his expertise on weather but also heartfelt advice to his co-hosts.

The beloved weatherman, now 70, once again demonstrated this role during a recent segment on the Third Hour of Today,

where he shared some timely words of wisdom with co-anchor Dylan Dreyer.

During their usual morning discussions, Al, alongside Craig Melvin, took the opportunity to caution Dylan ahead of her upcoming flight out of New York City.

With his signature humor and seasoned perspective, he reminded her that weather conditions are often unpredictable, serving up a lighthearted but meaningful warning.

A Bond Beyond the Screen

The chemistry between the Today Show anchors goes beyond their professional roles—they have built friendships that extend well past the cameras.

Their camaraderie has often been on display, showing how much they support one another, both personally and professionally.

Al has firsthand experience with this unwavering support. He opened up last year about how much his Today colleagues meant to him, particularly when he faced a serious health scare in late 2022. His hospitalization forced him to step away from the show for an extended period, but his co-hosts, including Savannah Guthrie and then-co-anchor Hoda Kotb, rallied around him. In a touching display of friendship, they even surprised him by singing Christmas carols outside his home.

Reflecting on that moment, Al admitted, “To be honest, I hadn’t cried during the whole thing, during the whole ordeal. But that brought me to tears.”

He went on to explain that the outpouring of well-wishes, prayers, and support from fans and colleagues alike was deeply meaningful.

Adapting to Change on Today

Over the years, Today has undergone several changes, and Al has been there for many of them. Having joined NBC in 1978, he has witnessed the morning show evolve and adapt with time.

Following Hoda Kotb’s recent departure from Today, Al acknowledged the shift but remained confident in the show’s strength and ability to continue thriving. He praised colleagues like Craig Melvin, Laura Jarrett, Willie Geist, and Sheinelle Jones, who have all stepped in to ensure the show never misses a beat.

“The great thing about the Today Show is that the sum is greater than its equal parts,” Al remarked, emphasizing the team’s collective strength.

As one of the longest-running morning shows on television, Today has built a legacy of resilience. Al reassured viewers that no matter what happens, the show remains in good hands.

“Each one of us is very fortunate to be in this position, for however long we have, and then we pass the baton off to somebody else. So the future of the show is just as strong and bright no matter who steps in.”

Understanding Hoda Kotb’s Departure

Al also expressed his understanding and support for Hoda Kotb’s choice to step away from her Today hosting duties to focus on her two young daughters. He related her decision to his own experiences as a father and now a grandfather.

“I’m just head over heels over my granddaughter,” he shared. “But my kids are grown. They’re out of the house. I’ve had my time with them.”

He acknowledged that Hoda’s children are still young, and she wants to cherish these precious years with them. Though her absence will be felt, Al reassured fans that she remains part of the Today family.

“She’s not leaving the family. So at the end of the day, I’m happy for her.”

A Show That Stands the Test of Time

Al, Craig, Dylan, and Sheinelle recently attended SNL50: The Homecoming Concert at Radio City Music Hall, a reminder of the strong bond they share both on and off the set. Despite the inevitable changes that come with time, Al remains optimistic about the show’s future and its ability to evolve.

With his years of experience and deep connection to the Today team, Al Roker continues to be a guiding force—whether it’s offering heartfelt wisdom, navigating show transitions, or simply sharing a friendly warning before a flight. Through it all, his presence on the show remains as steady as ever, proving that some things, like Al’s warmth and wisdom, never change.
