Olivia Culpo becomes emotional when talking about her anxiety surrounding ultrasound appointments due to the fact that they can exacerbate her PTSD. What is behind this trigger?

Olivia Culpo is overjoyed as she prepares to welcome her first child, but her path to motherhood was far from easy.

The 32-year-old model and actress faced significant challenges due to endometriosis, a painful condition that can impact fertility.

A Difficult Diagnosis

Culpo’s battle with endometriosis was not an easy one.

She spent years searching for answers and was misdiagnosed by multiple doctors before finally getting the correct diagnosis in 2020.

It was only after undergoing a life-changing laparoscopic surgery with Dr. Smitha Vilasagar at Atrium Health in Los Angeles that she fully understood the extent of her condition.

The former Miss Universe has been vocal about her struggles, using her platform to raise awareness about the disease. On her reality show The Culpo Sisters in 2022, she expressed her concerns about how endometriosis could affect her ability to conceive. “I want to have kids, but I want to make sure that I can. It could be really hard for me to have babies,” she admitted.

Understanding Endometriosis and Its Impact on Fertility

Endometriosis is a condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the womb, often affecting reproductive organs. Culpo has spoken openly about the uncertainty it caused her, explaining that the disease can impact fertility in several ways, including scarring the fallopian tubes, damaging egg quality, and affecting the ovaries.

“There is so much that I don’t know about what’s going to happen in the future with that condition, and I worry all the time about my timeline,” she shared on The Culpo Sisters. “I feel like I have to have kids ASAP.”

Overcoming Anxiety Around Pregnancy

Despite her excitement about becoming a mother, Culpo has acknowledged the emotional toll that her past struggles have had on her. She has described how ultrasounds make her feel anxious, revealing that she experiences “major PTSD” whenever she undergoes a scan.

“I’m always scared of what they’re going to say,” she confessed, explaining that she watches the doctor’s lips intently, hoping for good news.

During one episode of The Culpo Sisters, she was seen visiting Dr. Thais Aliabadi, a gynecologist she trusts deeply. However, she admitted that she still finds these visits nerve-wracking. “I just need something that’ll make me feel like I don’t have this looming timeline,” she told the doctor.

Announcing the Next Chapter

Despite the difficulties she faced, Culpo and her husband, NFL star Christian McCaffrey, recently shared the joyful news that they are expecting their first child. On Monday morning, the couple made the official announcement, with Culpo sharing a heartfelt message on social media, writing, “Next chapter, motherhood.”

The couple’s love story has been one of admiration and support. They tied the knot on June 29 after dating for five years. McCaffrey, a standout player for the San Francisco 49ers, has been recovering from a posterior cruciate ligament injury he suffered in December.

A Journey of Resilience

Culpo’s journey highlights the struggles that many women with endometriosis face when trying to conceive. From misdiagnoses to the emotional toll of fertility concerns, she has been open about the highs and lows of her experience. Now, as she steps into motherhood, she continues to inspire others by sharing her story.

Beyond her personal life, Culpo has built a successful career not just as a model and actress but also as a businesswoman and influencer. She has collaborated with brands like SkinPen, Uber Eats, Minted, PayPal, Amazon, Jo Malone London, and Casamigos, using her platform to connect with millions of followers.

Now, with a new chapter ahead, Culpo is embracing motherhood with excitement and gratitude. After years of uncertainty, her dream of having children is becoming a reality.
