Al Roker’s family shocks fans with hints that his cancer NEVER WENT INTO REMISSION: “He might not have much time left…”

Al Roker, the beloved Today show weatherman, is facing a tough health battle, but he’s determined to overcome it.

The 66-year-old television personality recently revealed that he has been diagnosed with prostate cancer.

However, rather than letting the diagnosis bring him down, Roker is maintaining a positive attitude and gearing up for the fight ahead.

The longtime broadcaster took to social media to thank fans for their overwhelming support following his announcement.

In an Instagram video posted on Saturday, he expressed his gratitude and shared his determination to defeat the disease.

“Oh my gosh, is this not a glorious day or what? Fantastic,” Roker said in the clip.

“And it reminds me that I’ve got to thank each and every one of you for your prayers, your support, your well wishes after I announced on Friday that I am battling prostate cancer.”

With his signature optimism, Roker made it clear that he isn’t backing down from the challenge. “And with any luck, next week I’m going to be having prostate cancer surgery, and I’m going to tell prostate cancer, to borrow a phrase, ‘You’re fired,’” he added, referencing Donald Trump’s famous catchphrase from The Celebrity Apprentice.

In the caption of his post, Roker reiterated his appreciation for the love he’s received. “I am beyond #grateful to the outpouring of #prayers and #goodwishes since I shared I have #prostatecancer but going to tell that cancer, #yourefired.”

Revealing His Diagnosis

Roker first shared the news of his diagnosis during the Today show broadcast on Friday, explaining that he would soon undergo surgery.

“It’s a good news-bad news kind of thing,” he said. “Good news is we caught it early. Not-great news is that it’s a little aggressive, so I’m going to be taking some time off to take care of this.”

He reassured his fans and colleagues that he was hopeful about his recovery and planned to return to work soon. “We’ll just wait and see, and hopefully in about two weeks, I’ll be back [on the show],” he said.

Understanding His Treatment Plan

Roker’s doctor, Dr. Vincent Laudone, also appeared on Today to provide more details about the diagnosis and treatment plan. According to Dr. Laudone, Roker’s cancer “appears somewhat limited or confined to the prostate.”

“Fortunately, his cancer appears somewhat limited or confined to the prostate, but because it’s more aggressive, we wanted to treat it,” he explained. “After discussion regarding all of the different options—surgery, radiation, focal therapy—we settled on removing the prostate.”

How the Cancer Was Discovered

Roker’s cancer was detected during a routine physical when his doctor noticed an elevated prostate-specific antigen (PSA) level in his bloodwork. Elevated PSA levels can be a warning sign of prostate cancer, prompting further testing.

Following the abnormal bloodwork, Roker underwent an MRI and a biopsy, which confirmed the diagnosis on September 29. He recalled the moment he received the news from his doctor.

“When he started, he closed his door and said, ‘I always like to have these discussions face to face,’” Roker said. “And I was like, ‘Uh oh. Well, that doesn’t sound good.’ … You hear the word cancer and your mind goes—it’s the next level, you know?”

Roker’s Resilience and Optimism

Despite the seriousness of his diagnosis, Roker remains upbeat and ready to take on this new challenge. His fighting spirit and determination are evident, and he is committed to raising awareness about prostate cancer.

Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers among men, with early detection playing a crucial role in successful treatment. Roker’s openness about his diagnosis may encourage others to prioritize their health and get regular screenings.

Roker’s colleagues at Today have rallied behind him, sending their love and support. Fans have also flooded social media with messages of encouragement, showing just how beloved he is.

A Journey of Strength and Hope

As Roker prepares for surgery, he remains focused on his recovery and the future. His positive attitude, sense of humor, and unwavering determination make it clear that he’s ready to beat prostate cancer and return to the Today show stronger than ever.

With the love of his family, friends, and fans, Roker is facing this challenge head-on—and if there’s one thing we know about him, it’s that he never backs down from a fight.
