Savannah Guthrie’s bold claim hinted at future success after leaving TODAY.

Savannah Guthrie, one of NBC’s most recognized faces, is preparing for an exciting new venture outside of her daily role on The Today Show.

The beloved anchor is stepping back—albeit temporarily—from her hosting duties to embark on a nationwide book tour for her latest children’s book, Mostly What God Does Is Love You.

Her newest release follows the success of her first picture book, Mostly What God Does, which became a New York Times Bestseller.

Now, with her second book, Guthrie aims to share another heartfelt message with young readers, reinforcing the idea of unconditional love.

A Temporary Farewell to Today for a Meaningful Project

Though Guthrie remains an active presence on The Today Show—even recently participating in a Valentine’s Day engagement surprise—her temporary absence is scheduled to begin on February 20, 2025.

The book tour will take her to multiple locations across the country, including Texas, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York. The tour will wrap up on February 26, giving fans the opportunity to meet her in person and hear firsthand about her inspiration behind the book.

The Heartfelt Message Behind the Book

In discussing her newest work, Guthrie shared her passion for its central theme:

“We often tell our children how much we love them, but how different would our world be if we shared the simple truth that God loves them, too,” she explained.

She emphasized that her goal is to instill in young minds a sense of being deeply cherished, while also encouraging them to spread kindness and love to others.

“This book is my way of sharing that message with the next generation so they grow up knowing how cherished they are and how, in turn, they can share that same love with others,” Guthrie added.

Overcoming Her Fears for the Sake of Her Passion

Despite being a seasoned television journalist who has handled high-pressure news moments, Guthrie admitted that going live on Instagram to discuss her book was a nerve-wracking experience.

“Pressing go on an Instagram live is about 100 times scarier than any live shot I’ve ever done on NBC News,” she confessed during a recent session.

She also reflected on her first book tour experience, recalling the initial fear she felt before putting herself out there.

“A year ago… I went on a book tour after Mostly What God Does came out, and before this time a year ago, I was so scared and nervous because, to go out and do this book, that was so personal and relatable, was terrifying,” she admitted.

But those nerves quickly turned into excitement and gratitude.

“I didn’t know how it’d be received or if it’d be received well,” she continued. “All of you have been so kind, and have received it so well, and I’ve had so many meaningful conversations with people I’ve met out on the tour.”

A Natural Storyteller in More Ways Than One

While Guthrie is best known for delivering the day’s biggest news stories, she has also proven herself as a talented storyteller in the literary world. Her ability to craft meaningful narratives extends beyond journalism and into children’s literature, where she is building a collection of books centered on themes of love, faith, and personal connection.

Her first book, Mostly What God Does, resonated deeply with parents and children alike, which paved the way for her latest release. Fans of her work are eager to see what new insights she brings with Mostly What God Does Is Love You.

What’s Next for Savannah Guthrie?

While Guthrie’s temporary departure from Today might leave a brief void for fans of the morning show, she will soon return to her hosting duties after completing her book tour. In the meantime, audiences can follow her journey through her social media updates and book tour appearances.

Her willingness to step outside her comfort zone and pursue her passion for storytelling is a testament to her versatility—not just as a journalist, but as an author, a mother, and an inspiration to many.

For those interested in meeting Savannah Guthrie and hearing more about Mostly What God Does Is Love You, her book tour kicks off on February 20 and will run until February 26, making stops in various cities along the way.
